Celexa

Celexa (citalopram) is a prescription antidepressant used to treat the main symptoms of depression in patients of different age groups. As your body adjusts to the treatment there are a number of mental health effects that can take place. If you notice suicidal thoughts, severe restlessness, worsening depression, panic attacks, unusual aggressiveness, difficulty falling asleep, abnormal excitement and irritability let your doctor or caregiver know about it. To make sure you remember to take Celexa it’s recommended to take it at the same time every day. If you happen to miss a dose take it as soon as you remember or if it’s almost time for the next one skip the dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Before you feel the benefits of your treatment some time is supposed to pass, usually it’s 2-4 weeks.

Your dose can be adjusted depending on how you respond to the medicine. If you think this drug is not working properly for you the doctor may increase the dose. The dose can be decreased if some of your side effects get too severe or interfere with your everyday activities. Some of the minor side effects of Celexa include nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, drowsiness and stomach pain. You are not supposed to take any action if these side effects take place as they are most likely to go away soon. Do not stop taking Celexa before discussing it with your health care provider. Gradual withdrawal is recommended as otherwise you may get some of the following withdrawal symptoms: confusion, anxiety, dizziness, headache, tiredness, mood swings, tingling in your hands, and difficulty going to sleep.
